You must obey traffic light signals when driving in Britain. Following is what they mean:
Red light: Stop.
Red and amber: Stop and do not move on until green light shows.
Amber (orange): Stop at the stop line. You can go on only if you have already passed the amber light.
Green: Go if the way is clear, but take care if you intend to turn left or right and give way to pedestrians who are crossing.
Green arrow: Go if the way is clear but only in the direction shown by the arrow. You may proceed in the direction of the green arrow even if the light for other directions is red.
If only the amber light is illuminated (NOT flashing) the light is about to turn red. You must stop unless you are so close to the line that stopping may cause an accident.
If both the red and amber lights are illuminated the light is about to turn green. This still means stop and you must until the light is green before proceeding.
If the amber light is flashing there may be pedestrians crossing or about to cross. They have priority and you must not attempt to proceed until the light turns green.
As an example for a 3 day car hire a Ford Focus 1.6 or similar is £109 for on line payment and a Ford Mondeo 1.8 or similar is £156 for on line payment. To find out more about car hire charges get a free online quote for UK Car Hire here
