Car Hire at London Heathrow Airport
There are a number of car hire companies at the airport. All have desks in terminals 1 to 4. However, you will need to take the shuttle bus to collect your car and drop off on the return. Guy Salmon have hire cars operating out of terminal 1.
Heathrow Airport is 15 miles west of central London and easily accessible from the M4 and M25 motorways. Terminal 1 is at the centre of the airport site, next to Terminals 2 and 3.
To get there exit at junction 4 of the M4 or junction 15 of the M25 and follow the signs for Heathrow Terminals 1, 2 and 3.

Most petrol stations are self-service - if you are hiring a car check whether it uses diesel or unleaded petrol. There are three filling stations close to Heathrow:
- BP station in the centre of the airport close to Terminals 1, 2 and 3.
- BP station with LPG facilities at Hatton Cross, Great West Road (A30)
- Esso station on the Southern Perimeter Road.
Vehicles use the left side of the road in Britain, and manual gear-change is standard - if you are used to driving on the right book a car with an automatic shift as it gives you one less thing to worry about.
If you are going to visit central London and are planning on driving your hire car, there is a congestion charge operating there of £8.00 per day (VAT exempt). Operation hours are from 07.00 to 18.00 hours (the congestion charge is not in operation during public holidays or at weekends).
